NIU Art Museum schedules bus trips

The Northern Illinois University Art Museum has announced the spring 2014 Get-on-the-Bus trips.

Trips depart from the NIU School of Art parking lot at the northeast corner of Gilbert Drive and College Avenue unless otherwise specified.

• John Michael Kohler Art Center, Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Jan. 30. Depart 7:30 a.m., return 9:30 p.m. Members $40, student and senior nonmembers $45, all others $50. Registration and payment due by Jan. 28.

Visit the Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan to view Chicago artist Ray Yoshida’s home collection. Then explore the more than 2 million pieces of wood type at the Hamilton Type museum in Two Rivers, Wis. and stop by the Milwaukee Art Museum. Meals and museum entry fees not included. Entry to the Kohler Center and Hamilton Museum are by donation; entry to the Milwaukee museum is $17 for adults, $14 for students and seniors.

• Hyde Park Art Center, University of Chicago, March 15. Depart 9 a.m., return 7 p.m. Members $18, student and senior nonmembers $22, all others $25. Registration and payment due March 12.

After visiting the Hyde Park Art Center, visit the Smart Museum, the Renaissance Society, and the new Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago. Meals not included.

• St. Louis Overnighter, March 27 to 30. A tour of St. Louis museums, buildings and neighborhoods. Participants will stay at the Moonrise Boutique Hotel in the Delmar Loop neighborhood. Call the NIU Art Museum at 815-753-1936 for more details.

• The House on the Rock, May 3. Depart 8 a.m., return 5:30 p.m. Members $30, student and senior nonmembers $35, all others $40. Registration and payment due April 30.

See the unique House on the Rock and view the fantastically berserk collections on site. Meals and museum entry fee not included. Museum entry fee to view the complete collection is $28.50 for adults, $26.50 for seniors.
