First responders help carry a person from a Chevrolet sports utility vehicle that rolled Wednesday on Peace Road just north of Route 64 in Sycamore. Three people were taken to the hospital and one refused treatment. Sycamore and DeKalb fire departments responded to the single-vehicle accident.

SYCAMORE – Three Rochelle residents were injured Wednesday when a sports utility vehicle slid on black ice and into a ditch on Peace Road, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Samantha Huff, 34, of Rochelle was driving north on Peace Road near Route 64 about 9:30 a.m. when she lost control of her Chevrolet SUV and slid into the east ditch, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gary Dumdie said. The force of the impact against the snow forced the vehicle onto its side.

Two of the occupants were later helped out of the vehicle by passer-by, Dumdie said, and two other passengers had to be helped out of the vehicle by emergency crews from the Sycamore and DeKalb fire departments.

Huff and two passengers, Eduardo Vega, 34, and April Burgess, 24, were taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. All three have since been treated and released.

A fourth person refused treatment at the scene.

All four were wearing their seatbelts.

The accident occurred on a straight portion of Peace Road where some black ice had settled in, Dumdie said.
