6 deaths reported in Illinois after snow, cold

JOLIET — Authorities say at least six deaths have been reported in Illinois following snow and bitter cold.

Will County coroner Patrick O'Neil says a 62-year-old and a 63-year-old, each from Joliet, died Sunday at Saint Joseph Medical Center. A 57-year-old from Bolingbrook died Saturday at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

A 48-year-old Chicagoan and a 71-year-old Bloomington man both died after shoveling Sunday, although officials say each had heart problems.

Meanwhile in Pana, a 64-year-old died after his body was found in snow about a half mile from his home Monday.

Christian County Sheriff's Office officials told The (Springfield) State Journal-Register that his death was likely caused by exposure and a medical condition.

A storm dumped more than a foot of snow across much of Illinois before sending temperatures spiraling to record lows.
