Free English as a Second Language classes offered

The Adult Education and Transition Programs division at Kishwaukee College is offering free beginning and intermediate level English as a Second Language courses at various times and locations in the area. 

The spring semester begins Monday. Students can enroll in classes from Monday through Jan. 27 and again from Feb. 10 through 14 at the class locations or at the Adult Education and Transition Programs offices at Kish College. Beginning and Intermediate ESL classes help adults with limited English proficiency learn the basics of speaking, listening, reading and writing with practical applications to daily life.

Beginning and Intermediate ESL is offered at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb Classes meet from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be no class Jan. 20. With sufficient enrollment by Jan. 27, childcare is available for children from birth through age 10.

Beginning and Intermediate ESL class being offered at Conexión Comunidad, 637 N. 11th St. in DeKalb, which meets from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. With sufficient enrollment by Jan. 27, childcare is available for children from birth through age 10.

Beginning and Intermediate ESL is offered at Founders School, 821 S. Seventh St. in DeKalb. Classes meet from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be no class Jan. 20. With sufficient enrollment by Jan. 27, childcare is available for children from birth through age 10.

There also will be Beginning and Intermediate ESL classes in Genoa at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 S. Stott St. The Genoa class meets from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be no class on Jan. 20 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. With sufficient enrollment by Jan. 27, childcare is available through the Family Literacy program for children from birth through age 10, while their parents are in class.
