PREP ROUNDUP: Sycamore girls basketball opens tourney play with win

The Sycamore girls basketball team opened the Oswego East Tournament on Monday on the right track, defeating Immaculate Conception, 47-46.

Lauren Goff had 11 points and four assists for the Spartans, while Taiya Hopkins added 12 rebounds

The Spartans will play West Chicago in the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Barbs fall at Montini: Nequa Valley defeated DeKalb, 55-35, at the Montini Christmas Tournament. The Barbs play in the consolation bracket at 8 a.m. Thursday.

T'wolves win Amboy opener: Josie Diehl had 24 points 15 rebounds for Indian Creek in a 57-53 win over Plano at the Amboy Holiday Tournament. Alexis Van Wyhe had 10.

The Timberwolves are now 6-6.

"I was real pleased with the effort," Indian Creek coach Paul Muchmore said. "Girls played well together, came back from seven down in the third quarter."

Knights go 1-1 in Ottawa: Kaneland defeated Rockford East, 59-47, at the Ottawa Holiday Tournament. The Knights lost to Geneseo, 45-38.

Ally VanBogaert led the Knights (6-6) with 21 points in the win over Rockford East. Kelly Wallner and Brittany Kemp finished with 11.

Against Geneseo, VanBogaert had 11 points while Marina Schaefer finished with seven.


Barbs lose at Chuck Dayton: DeKalb fell to 2-1 at the Chuck Dayton Tournament with a 59-43 loss to Marmion. The Barbs continue tourney play against Winnebago at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sycamore goes 2-0 at Marengo Tournament: Sycamore defeated Stillman Valley, 75-54, and also beat Antioch, 63-55.
