Oak Crest awards grants to two employees

Published: Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Twice a year for the past 14 years, the Community Relations Committee of the board of trustees at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center has awarded a grant in the amount of $300 to a deserving employee to pursue educational or enrichment programming.

This grant is in addition to the annual Employee Scholarship designed for employees or their dependents pursuing an undergraduate degree or program of study. The purpose of the grant is to allow additional opportunities for employees to pursue educational goals or enrichment programming.

This year’s grants were awarded to Hannah Buckle and Sonia Vaje. Buckle is a member of the administrative office staff and has worked at Oak Crest since August of 2010. She recently completed a bachelor’s degree in music and has returned to school to study physical therapy. Her talents and abilities are numerous, and she willingly shares them as a volunteer at Oak Crest.

Vaje has been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Oak Crest since July 2004. While working full-time, she is pursuing her studies to become a registered nurse. Her determination and commitment to the organization make her a deserving recipient.

“As an organization committed to providing a quality environment in which to live and work, the fact that Oak Crest continues to offer grants to employees to support them as they develop in the areas of education and self-improvement is testimony to our vision,” executive director Stephen Cichy said in a news release. “Our organizational vision is to be recognized as the innovative leader in long-term care and services. Whether their interests are in the areas of academics or life enrichment, the fact that they continue to grow and learn makes this a community of which to be proud. This vision applies not only to the people who make their homes here, but to the people who make Oak Crest home.”
