To the Editor:

My name is Laurie Emmer, and I am a write-in Republican candidate for DeKalb County Board District 4.

I am married to Michael and the mother of Kevin, Christina, Andrew and Kaylie. I served in the United States Army for 23½ years as an enlisted medic and paratrooper.  I deployed to Afghanistan with the 82d Airborne Division. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Saint Leo University and I will be graduating from Northern Illinois University in May 2014 with degrees in history and political science with emphasis in international relations.

We have owned our home in Sycamore since 2005 and absolutely love living here.  Our oldest son graduated from NIU, our youngest son is currently a student at NIU as well as a Sycamore High School graduate and our youngest daughter is a student at Sycamore Middle School. We retired here after our military service was over because my husband is from here and a Sycamore High School graduate.

This is my first time running for public office, but this is not my first experience with the political process. I spent three years working with the Iraq and Veterans of America doing advocacy for veterans with “Storm the Hill” on Capitol Hill.

During Storm the Hill we met with members of Congress to advocate for veterans legislation which helped for veterans education, jobs and processing of Veterans Administration claims. I plan to meet and engage with as many of the constituency in District 4 as possible before the March 18, 2014 primary to discuss the issues that matter to us and discuss my positions and ideas. Communication is very important me.  Please like my Facebook page, Emmer for DeKalb County Board 4th District.
