Letter: Welcome to San Diego, Huskies

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

As a DeKalb native and alumnus of Northern Illinois University living in the San Diego area, let me welcome Huskies fans to our city’s Poinsettia Bowl. Utah State is an up-and-coming football aspirant, but the Huskies should win if they remember to play defense and don’t mope about not being in Phoenix at the Fiesta Bowl.

Another NIU matter: As a reader of the Daily Chronicle online, I was disturbed by the coverage of the Annie Glidden home on campus. The university should own up to the fact that it has been derelict in the preservation and use of that historic home. The picture of DeKalb’s mayor in the house wearing a hardhat says it all.

The school needs to “man up” and restore the home and either use it or lose it (back to the Glidden family). Historically, the Gliddens were the Fords of DeKalb and ought to be respected as such.
