Truman’s Ridge show bids farewell to its bass player

Published: Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Local bluegrass band Truman’s Ridge’s last show of 2013 will be a “Farewell to Karel.” The show will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Dec. 19 at The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb.

Karel Waska has been playing bass with the bluegrass band for the past year. He has completed his doctoral work and will return to the Czech Republic on Dec. 21. While the band will miss him and his exciting brand of bluegrass, his family is excited about his return.

Waska is an accomplished jazz and classical bassist as well as an award-winning bluegrass musician. He is a good friend and has been a great addition to the band.

A jam session will follow the show. If interested, bring along an instrument.

Greg Heintz will return as the band’s bass player. He played with the band during the 2012 season. Heintz is music performance major at Northern Illinois University and is an accomplished jazz and classical bassist.

Work continues on Truman’s Ridge’s newest CD, “Louisiana Swing.” A release date is expected in early spring.
