Kaneland defeated Sycamore, 33-29, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 East wrestling dual meet Thursday at Northern Illinois’ Convocation Center in DeKalb.
Sycamore had to forfeit matches at 106 and 220 pounds, proving to be the difference in the match.
Sycamore’s Kyle Akins (120) and Tyler Barton (195) and Kaneland’s Adam Mish (113) each scored wins by pin while Sycamore’s Chris Malone (182) and Kaneland’s Austin Parks (160) won by technical fall.
Kaneland’s Dane Good-enough (138) also won by major decision. Kaneland got wins by decision from Matthew Redman (126) and Justin Diddell (285). Sycamore’s Brian Johnston (132), Andre Larsen (145), Michael Ernster (152) and Austin Armstrong (170) all won by decision.
DeKalb crushes Rochelle: DeKalb defeated Rochelle, 53-9, in a NI Big 12 East match at home.
All but two wrestlers in the varsity recorded wins, including Alex Roach and Matt Macarus by pin. Jackson Montgomery, Nick Roach and Ulises Jacobo also got wins for the Barbs.
Indian Creek gets first LTC win: Indian Creek got its first Little Ten Conference victory with a 61-6 win over Hiawatha.
Josie Diehl had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five steals while Samantha Mosley recorded 14 points and six rebounds for the Timberwolves (3-4, 1-0 LTC).
“I thought we did a nice job in the first quarter with our defense and getting the ball moving,” Indian Creek coach Paul Muchmore said. “We’ve been struggling getting the ball out on the break.”
Indian Creek will travel to Earlville-Leland on Monday.
Sycamore edged by Morris: Sycamore fell to Morris, 3,261-3,024, in an NI Big 12 East dual meet.
The Spartans were led by sophomore Kelsey Johnston, who bowled a 544 series, including a high game of 217. Sophomore Kelly Drake recorded a 535 series, which incldued a 206 high game.
Kaneland falls: Kaneland lost to Dixon, 2,826-2,362, in an NI Big 12 East crossover match. Michelle Bohanek led the Knights with a 429 series, including games of 168 and 157. Dominque Lee bowled a 422 series with a game of 159 included.
DeKalb sweeps Ottawa: DeKalb won all three games and took the series, 3,750-3,229, against Ottawa.
Seth Pinne led the Barbs with a 700 series, including games of 257 and 229. Michael Belluzzi contributed a 643 series and high game of 236 while Sean Mattingly recorded a 626 series and high game of 258. Ranzy Collins (624 series) and Jack Berry (612 series) also figured in the scoring for the Barbs.
DeKalb will travel to the Vernon Hills Invite on Saturday.
