DeKalb’s National Night Out event recognized

DeKALB – Target Corp. gave local leaders a $1,000 grant and a 2013 Excellence Award for the National Night Out event held Aug. 6.

DeKalb police helped host this annual event with Target employees, DeKalb firefighters, Northern Illinois University police, DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies and other entities, according to a news release. The event featured picnic-style food, educational activities, and children’s prizes including bicycle accessories, toys and bicycles with the support of Target and the DeKalb Police Benevolent and Protective Association

More than 15,000 events were held nationwide as part of the National Night Out effort. Local leaders plan to use the grant to support next year’s event, the release states.
