Letter: Unfortunate signs on new DeKalb police station

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

I doubt I am the only resident who has driven past the shiny new DeKalb Police Station only to find myself drawn to the cringe-worthy presence of the words “Juvenile” and “Bond Out” on the front of the structure.

It is almost as if the architect was given a mandate to leave no doubt as to the purpose of the building or who is perceived to be the problem.

As central and essential a part of the college experience as the “Library” or the “math building.” Just in case you had forgotten ... we are watching you – juveniles. There is no rational case that can be made that a more effective way to channel visitors could not be designed in a more subtle way. Embarrassing.
