‘Gloriously Simple’ to be presented at SUMC

Published: Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

The beautifully simple message of Christmas will be presented in all its glory at the Sycamore United Methodist Christmas Choral Celebration 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The 40-voice Adult Choir will be featured on many of the numbers, as well as Junior Choir, directed by Peggy Carey and Jesse Martin, Youth Ensemble, and many small groups.

Some of the small groups include a trio consisting of popular local performers Paul and Marcia Watson with Phyllis Horst; Ken Olson, Doug Kenney and Larry Welch in a Men’s Trio; and Good News! Men’s Quartet, featuring Lanny Sanner, Joel Maurer, Jim McCue and Doug Elder, director.

The program is built around a drama written by director Bev Rauch. It tells the story of a music teacher bringing her choirs to a barn to rehearse in order to help them understand the true meaning of Christmas. In the play, the church is transformed into long-time choir member Nancy Miller’s barn.

Craig Fritz accompanies the Adult Choir, and other instrumentalists include Tom Slater on trumpet, Paul Watson on trombone, and guitarist Phyllis Horst.

Cookies and child care are provided. The church is located at 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore.
