Published: Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

The Computer Information Sciences department at Kishwaukee College is offering a new course on C# and designing applications (apps) for Windows 8 for the Spring 2014 semester, which begins Jan. 13.

CIS 206 C# and Windows 8 Apps will meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Mondays at Kishwaukee College. The new course is open to Kish students as well as community members who are working in the computer industry.

CIS 206 was developed to meet the growing need of students and CIS/IT professionals to develop apps for the increasing number of mobile devices (tablets and phones). Topics covered will include coding conventions, control structures, data and file handling, objects and events. The Windows 8 apps development architecture will be used to develop apps using the XAML interface and Windows Runtime. Students will complete programming assignments outside of the class.

The course is an excellent addition to the knowledge base of anyone pursuing or currently working in programming or software development. It is recommended that students registering for the course have one semester of programming experience. The recommendation can be met by completion of CIS 110 Visual Basic Programming, CIS 150 C++ Programming I, or CIS 160 Java Programming I or the equivalent in programming experience in industry.
