First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeKalb, will present its 54th annual Carols and Candles service at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

This traditional service of lessons and carols features the Chancel Choir, directed by Tim Blickhan, with organist Travis Erikson. The service will feature scripture readings related to the prophecy and birth of the Christ Child, selections by the Chancel Choir and group-singing of traditional carols including, as has been done every year since the first service in 1959, the lighting of individual candles and the singing of “Silent Night.”

The church’s annual Christmas Tea will follow at 8:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.

First Congregational is handicapped-accessible, and is located at 615 N. First St. in DeKalb, next to the Ellwood House.
