MALTA – A 45-year-old Malta man was drunk when he flipped a rental car trying to test its handling at high speed, authorities said.

Wayne J. Fleetwood, of the 17200 block of Tower Road, was driving a 2013 Chrysler 300 south on Shabbona Road near Interstate 88 about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when he lost control, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release. His passenger, 24-year-old Scott Fleetwood of Malta, was injured and taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

Wayne Fleetwood was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving too fast for conditions, the release states. He posted $100 and his driver’s license as bail Sunday evening. His next court date is Dec. 26.
