DeKalb woman accused of bringing cocaine to jail
DeKALB – Authorities released Deborah A. Ebert from jail for three hours Saturday to attend her granddaughter's birthday party.
They say the woman returned to jail with a straw filled with cocaine.
Ebert, 56, of the 500 block of East Taylor Street in DeKalb, was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
She was being held in the DeKalb County Jail for direct civil contempt, but allowed to leave from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, said DeKalb County Sheriff Lt. Joyce Klein. Police found a plastic straw with cocaine in it in Ebert's pocket after she returned, court records show.
If convicted of the more serious charge, Ebert will face up to 15 years in prison. Bond was set at $25,000. Ebert is next due in court Wednesday.
