Prep roundup: DeKalb-Sycamore girls swimming season comes to an end

The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op swim team saw its season end in the preliminary round of the IHSA state swimming finals at New Trier High School on Friday.

Sophomore Jensen Keck placed 27th in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1 minute, 6.41 seconds. Keck finished 33rd in the same event as a freshman.

Sophomore Kylie Olson placed 39th in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 59.31.

The relay team of sophomores Bailey Flemming, Keck, Alexa Miller and Olson placed 38th in the 200 medley relay.

It was the first time at state for Flemming, Miller and Olson.


G-K downs Harvard: Genoa-Kingston won its second consecutive game at the Harvard tournament with a 48-36 win over the host Hornets. 

Julie Galauner had 13 points while Courtney Winters chipped in 12. Katie Thurlby and Jackie Nay each had six in the win for the Cogs (2-1).

“We get to play two [more] games,” G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. “We’re hoping to keep winning.”

G-K plays Round Lake at 10:30 a.m. today and Belvidere at 1:30 p.m. today.

Indian Creek rebounds with win: Indian Creek rebounded from a tough Thursday loss with a 60-43 win over Timothy Christian.

The Timberwolves (2-2) got 15 points and 12 rebounds from sophomore Josie Diehl. Alexis Van Wyhe added 11 points while Jackie Bouma had nine in the win.

Indian Creek plays Reed Custer at 11 a.m. today at Aurora Christian.



Knights lost to West Aurora: West Aurora defeated Kaneland, 60-43. Amber Winquist-Bailey scored 11 points for the Knights.


Sycamore 3,456, Dixon 3,437: The Spartans won 8 of the 10 Northern Illinois Big 12 points at Plum Hollow in Dixon.

Trevor Smith’s 614 series and 228 high game led three Sycamore series in the 600s.
