To the Editor:
It’s been awhile since I was an undergraduate at Northern Illinois University. Well, maybe more than just awhile. But it seems like only yesterday that I was at Northern as a journalism major.
In the intervening 51 years since I received my diploma from Dr. Leslie Holmes, I have come to appreciate the significance that NIU has had in my life. Over the years as the university has grown, it has maintained and updated many older structures as well as added much-needed new buildings.
It seems that the preservation of the Annie Glidden house offers a unique opportunity to retain early NIU and DeKalb history. This charming residence should be updated and given a new role at Northern. Surely some town and gown groups can come together to retain this historical treasure.
