Prep Roundup: DeKalb girls hoops tops Harlem

The DeKalb girls basketball team won a tough road game against Harlem, 52-44, to open up its season Tuesday night.

Last year DeKalb (1-0) won the Northern Illinois Big 12 East championship before losing to Huntley in a regional semifinal.

The Barbs will be off until Monday when they start play against Minooka in the Warhawk Tournament at Waubonsie Valley.

T’wolves fall: Indian Creek lost to Aurora Christian, 45-41, in the IMSA Hoop Happenings tournament, falling to 1-1 on the season.

Josie Diehl had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Madison Russell added in 11 points.


Barbs edge Dixon: DeKalb defeated Dixon, six points to four points, by winning the first game and overall series. The Barbs totaled 3,532 pins while Dixon came in at 3,526 pins.

The Barbs were led by Michael Belluzzi’s 646 series, including games of 224 and 220. Will Todtz had a 635 series with games of 224 and 229 while Seth Pinne (223) and Ranzy Collins (222) also recorded solid games.

The Barbs host Streator at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
