Somonauk Christian School places in Bible competition
Somonauk Christian School’s 2013 Junior Bible Quiz Team placed second out of 15 teams at its second meet of the year on Dec. 16.
The three second-grade girls, Riley Dyon, Jovi Phillips and Savannah Steinhoff, led by coach David Steinhoff, traveled to Calvary Church in Naperville to compete against teams from across northern Illinois, including Naperville and Chicago. The girls competed in seven rounds, losing only one round to a team from Naperville. Two of the girls received individual ribbons with Riley Dyon placing 15th and Savannah Steinhoff placing eighth. Jovi Phillips finished in the top 20.
“The girls competed against some tough teams this time and with Jovi having a double ear infection, we were a little afraid the girls wouldn’t do as well as last time,” Coach Dave Steinhoff said in a news release. “But they beat some of the tougher teams and took home the second-place trophy. It was more than we even hoped for and I am one proud coach. These girls are amazing.”
The team will have a break until January, when they will return to Calvary Church for another meet.
Each student is required to memorize Bible verses and numerous answers to Biblical questions.
Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) was created and designed to help children develop a love for the Bible and an understanding that its truth can guide their lives daily. Junior Bible Quiz offers a fun, exciting way to motivate children to understand the all-important truths in God’s Word. Through cooperative learning, children work together on teams to learn and understand the questions and answers from the Bible Fact-Pak. Then using cooperative competition, the children meet with other teams for a quizzing match. There are 20 questions in a match, with two teams of quizzers trying to beat each other to the buzzers to get the first shot at the answers.
