DeKALB – DeKalb police are searching for a 27-year-old DeKalb man they suspect of firing shots Wednesday during a fight in an apartment complex parking lot.

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for Benjamin L. Evans, according to police. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Bond was set at $250,000.

Police did not have a current address for Evans, Lt. James McDougall said.

Evans is accused of pulling out a handgun during a fight between two groups of men about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at James Court Apartments, McDougall said. The men were arguing outside the complex, which is on North First Street near Bethany Road, when Evans began shooting at his adversaries’ vehicle, McDougall said.

Anyone with information on Evans’ whereabouts should call DeKalb police at 815-748-8400. They also can contact DeKalb County Crime Stoppers at 815-895-3272 or email crimestoppers@dekalbcounty.org. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward up to $1,000 and reports can be made anonymously.
