Letter: Take advantage of veterans assistance

Published: Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 11:22 p.m. CST

To the Editor:

I would like to remind everyone of a very important service that’s provided bythe Dekalb County government: The Veterans Assistance Commission.

The commission’s staff are dedicated to helping veterans and their families receive the benefits they deserve. We have a large number of veterans in our county who haven’t taken advantage of this service.

They are there to help you deal with the Veterans Administration. They guided me through the process and made sure I received the benefits i had coming. They provide transportation to the VA hospitals, which means a lot to veterans who are unable to drive themselves to appointments. We’ve got vets out there going without healthcare because they are unable to drive.

If you’re a veteran and haven’t been to the V.A.C., I urge you to go and talk tothem. They are there to help.
