Amtrak adds service for Thanksgiving travelers

CHICAGO – Amtrak is giving travelers in Illinois more options on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, adding service on the Chicago-to-Quincy corridor that has stops in Galesburg and Macomb.

Rail officials announced Monday they’re adding a train leaving Quincy at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 1 and a train leaving Chicago at 11:30 a.m. that day. The additional trains will make regular stops on the routes known as the Illinois Zephyr and the Carl Sandburg.

The Thanksgiving holiday is Amtrak’s busiest travel week of the year. Last year, Amtrak carried a record 737,537 passengers during the period.

Travelers should consult the Amtrak website for more details on schedules. One change to note: Train 383 will depart Chicago 20 minutes later than usual on the Sunday after Thanksgiving to accommodate the additional service.
