ROUNDUP: DeKalb's Schrader takes second at cross country sectional
DeKalb's Kelsey Schrader finished second at the Class 2A Belvidere Sectional, advancing to the state meet next weekend in Peoria for the fourth time. Schrader finished in 17:47, only three seconds behind the winner.
DeKalb placed 11th as a team. Sara Schafer was 28th, Monica York was 40th and Kayla Federici finished 9th. Emma Conway was 108th.
Sycamore's Maggie Lalowski finished ninth in 18:21 to also qualify for the state meet. Hannah Cerny finished in 72nd place.
Kaneland finished fifth as a team, earning the final team qualifying spot for the state meet.
Victoria Clinton led the Knights by finishing in 11th while Brianna Bower was 15th. Erika Carlson (42nd), Abby Shaw (53rd) and Aislinn Lodwig (55th) also scored for the Knights.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Sycamore's Millburg, Stice advance: Sycamore's Adam Millburg and Mark Stice finished 14th and 15th respectively at the Class 2A Belvidere Sectional, earning individual entries into next week's state meet.
Millburg finished in 15:48 while Stice came in at 15:51. Sycamore's Kendryck Rand finished 46th.
"All three of the boys had terrific races. Mark and Adam were near their fastest times of the year," Sycamore coach Mike Lambdin said. "Hopefully they can build off this performance and get their fastest times down on the Detweiller course next weekend."
DeKalb, which finished 14th, was led by Isaac Hietanen (37th).
Kaneland finished fourth overall, earning a team spot at state. The Knights were paced by Kyle Carter (19th) and Nathaniel Kucera (21st). Brandon Park (37th), Andrew Lesak (41st) and Ryan Bower (45th) also scored for the Knights.
G-K's McLean, Volta finish season: Genoa-Kingston's Andy Volta finished in 123rd place at the Class A Oregon Sectional. Jason McLean placed 135th.
DeKalb-Sycamore takes second: DeKalb-Sycamore co-op swim team finished second at its conferece meet. Oswego won the meet.
"We were a lot closer to first than we were last year," co-op coach Leah Eames said. "Unfortunately we just couldn't make up the diving points we gave up."
Kylie Olson won the 100-yard backstroke and took second in the 200 individual medley. Jensen Keck was second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 500 free.
Bailey Flemming finished third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free while Alexa Miller was third in the 100 butterfly.
Kayleigh Kozlowski placed fourth in the 50 free and Emily Cook was fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 100 back.
Sam LeBlanc finished fifth in the 200 free and Colette LeBlanc was sixth in the 100 fly.
The 400 free relay team of Olson, Flemming, Keck and Miller finished second.
"The girls weren't rested by any means for this meet, but they performed really well considering the circumstances," Eames said.
