Major DeKalb intersection to close for railroad work
DeKALB – The intersection of routes 23 and 38 will be closed for up to a week starting Nov. 11 so Union Pacific Railroad crews can repair the crossing.
The roads will be closed for a block in each direction, according to a news release from the DeKalb Public Works Department. Local traffic will be allowed on Route 38 east of Fifth Street and west of Third Street and on Route 23 north of Locust Street and south of Grove Street, the release states.
Detour routes for truck traffic will direct vehicles driving north on Route 23 to take Fairview Avenue east to Peace Road, Peace Road north to Barber Greene Road, and then Barber Greene Road west to Route 23. Traffic going south on Route 23 will be directed to use the same route in reverse order.
The detour route for traffic driving west on Route 38 will be south on Peace Road to Fairview Drive, west on Fairview Drive to Route 23, south on Route 23 to Harvestore Drive, west on Harvestore Drive to South First Street, north on South First Street to Fairview Drive, west on Fairview Drive to Annie Glidden Road, and then north on Annie Glidden Road to Route 38. Traffic going east on Route 38 will be directed to use the same route in reverse order.
