Heating grants available for low-income families

Enrollment for the low-income home energy assistance program started Friday.

The federally funded programs provides grants to help customers pay outstanding energy bills and reconnect or maintain gas service, according to a news release from Peoples Gas. To find the closest application site, visit www.peoplesgasdelivery.com or call 800-571-2332.

The grants are available to those whose monthly household income is 150 percent of the federal poverty guideline, the news release states. That is $1,436 for a single person, $1,939 for a two-person household, $2,441 for a three-person household and $2,944 for a four-person household.

Applicants will need to show proof of gross income for all household members in the past 30 days, a copy of the most recent utility bill, proof of Social Security numbers for all household members, a medical eligibility card for any household member receiving TANF and a copy of a rental agreement in cases where utilities are included in the rent.
