Gun in restroom prompts Oswego school lockdown

OSWEGO – The discovery of a handgun in a restroom prompted a lockdown at a high school in Oswego.

A staff member at Oswego East High School found the weapon Wednesday in a faculty restroom and a search of the building was conducted. Nothing else suspicious was found.

School district officials and police reviewed video footage to identify who was last in the restroom.

Oswego police identified the suspect as 62-year-old Michael T. Martin of Plainfield and said he was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. He is jailed pending a bond hearing.

It was not clear if Martin already had a lawyer.

The district says he was a contractor working on school computer networks.

Police and school officials say nothing indicates the suspect intended to harm anyone.
