Winners named in pie-eating contest

The Sycamore Kiwanis Club held its annual Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest during last weekend’s Sycamore Pumpkin Festival.

Competitors gathered on the courthouse lawn to quickly eat pieces of pie to win a monetary prize. Many of the adult participants come back every year to defend their titles and enjoy the competition and the pie. DJ Kurtzman, Bridget McMillion, Robert McMiller and Jonathan Kurtzman have won multiple years in a row.

This year there were 54 children and adults in the contest. The pumpkin pies were purchased at Hy-Vee in Sycamore.

The following people were winners in their age categories.

Ages 5 and younger

First – Jay Dee, Genoa

Second – Olivia Walley, Janesville, Wis.

Third – A.J. McNeill, Schiller Park

Fourth – Payton Garretts, Genoa

Ages 6 to 10

First – Rachel Klumpp, Sycamore

Second – Will Hazelton, Cortland

Third – Troy Harris, Waterman

Fourth – Sam Krull, Sycamore

Ages 11 to 15

First – Lucas Krull, Kansas City, Mo.

Second – Jonathon Kurtzman, Sycamore

Third – Mason Waddell, Sycamore

Fourth – Nathan Davis, Sycamore

Age 16 and older

First – DJ Kurtzman, Sycamore

Second – Bridget Coghlin McMillion, Chicago

Third – Adam Gaulike, Kirkland
