Church program on Underground Railroad

The Federated Church in Sycamore will hold a special post-service program on Sunday, featuring Nancy Beasley, formerly of Sycamore and author of “The History of the Underground Railroad in DeKalb County.”

Beasley will talk about the book at 11:15 a.m., after the 10 a.m. worship service.

The Federated Church was formed when the congregations from the Congregational and Universalist churches joined in January 1927. Communion service and tables from those early churches will be used for communion during the worship service Sunday, and the sermon will be titled, “Digging Up the Roots.” The chancel choir will present “Road to Freedom,” an anthem featuring songs from the Underground Railroad’s history.

The public is invited to this program. The church is at 612 W. State St. in Sycamore; parking is available behind the church, off Greeley Street.
