Accident complicates Chicago transit reopening

CHICAGO – The reopening of a busy stretch of a Chicago Transit Authority train line was complicated overnight by a semitrailer truck that jumped a concrete wall and landed on the southbound tracks.

The Chicago Sun Times reported crews were able to repair the damaged track by early Monday, the first rush hour for the newly constructed Red Line South.

The truck was traveling on the Dan Ryan Expressway jumped the wall near the 69th Street station.

The new track extends from the end of the line to near Chicago’s downtown and includes stops in Chinatown, near U.S Cellular Field and the Illinois Institute of Technology. It was closed for repairs in May. The track was rebuilt and eight stations along the rail line got upgrades.
