Kaneland’s Dunn commits to play volleyball at Ball State

MAPLE PARK – Kaneland junior outside hitter Ellie Dunn knew Ball State women’s volleyball coach Steve Shondell was attending Tuesday’s home match against DeKalb.

Judging from their conversation later that night, Dunn didn’t have to wonder about Shondell’s thoughts about her play. Dunn received a scholarship offer and verbally committed to the Cardinals, she confirmed Wednesday, eagerly joining Shondell and his Mid-American Conference program in Muncie, Ind.

“He had seen some video but he had not yet seen me in person, so that was the deciding factor,” Dunn said. “He came out and he liked what he saw, I guess.”

Dunn said she considers the MAC a natural fit. Attending Ball State also will allow her the chance to sit at a family table during downtime or the offseason. Dunn said her paternal grandparents live in Lynn, Ind., while her mother’s parents are based in Richmond, Ind.
