Prep roundup: Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer on to regional final

Dylan Hottsmith had three goals and two assists as the DeKalb boys soccer team beat Rochelle, 7-0, on senior night.

Akim Suraji had two goals and an assist for the Barbs, while Esteban Ibarra and Gebron Zamudio had a goal apiece. Sean Woodford had two assists for DeKalb, and Rasmus Hage added one.

“It was only 2-0 at halftime. We had some adjustments we needed to make,” Barbs coach Brent McIntosh said. “... We were able to make those adjustments and put five in in the second half. It was just a great night to honor our seniors and our program as well.”

DeKalb is now 16-2 and 9-0 in conference play. The Barbs can go unbeaten in Northern Illinois Big 12 East play for the first time with a win at Morris on Thursday.

H-BR advances: The Hinckley-Big Rock boys soccer team beat Serena, 2-1, in the semifinals of its own regional. The Royals advance to play Somonauk in Friday’s Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock Regional final.

Serena got on the board first, but H-BR responded with second-half goals by Jack Bullard and Tom Sanders. Jack Warner and Bullard had the assists.

H-BR is now 15-6-1.

Timberwolves lose: Indian Creek lost to Mendota, 8-1, in the Class 1A Indian Creek Regional semifinals.

Eric Sorbel had the lone goal for the Timberwolves with an assist from Tim Sommerfeld. Indian Creek finishes the year at 5-15-1.

Kaneland wins: Kaneland defeated Yorkville, 1-0. Tyler Siebert scored off an Anthony Parillo assist in the first half.

Spartans lose NI Big 12 East match: Morris beat Sycamore, 6-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Cogs get BNC East win: Genoa-Kingston beat Marengo, 25-22, 25-12, behind 10 kills from Bridget Halat. Olivia Cotton had 17 digs for the Cogs while Lindsay Sunderlage finished with five blocks.

G-K is now 13-9 and 7-3 in conference play.

“I’m really happy with the way we came back in the second set. We buckled down and didn’t give up too many points,” Cogs coach Keith Foster said. “We’re a strong team, and we’re a tough team when we don’t make mistakes.”

T’wolves top Mooseheart: Indian Creek beat Mooseheart, 25-20, 25-21, to improve to 8-11.

Rebekah Goodrich had four kills, four aces and six digs for the Timberwolves, while Rebekka Boehne finished with nine assists and two aces. Josie Diehl had four kills while Bailey Martenson added 15 digs.

“I thought Rebekah Goodrich did a really nice job tonight playing defense,” Indian Creek coach Stephanie Crutcher said. “She also passed well serve-receive.”

Spartans fall: Yorkville beat Sycamore in three sets in a Northern Illinois Big 12 East match.

HB-R loses: Hinckley-Big Rock lost, 25-14, 21-25, 21-25 to LaMoille in a Little Ten Conference match.

Lauren Paver led the Royals with 11 kils and two aces.
