To the Editor:

Only 45 days until DeKalb County will be the hotbed for Illinois High School Football. On Nov. 29 and 30, Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Stadium will be the site of the IHSA Football State Championships. The event is being held in DeKalb for the first time and co-hosted by the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau and NIU.

Two days, eight games, 16 teams and thousands of football fans from across the state will be driving into our county from all directions. It is our opportunity to showcase all of DeKalb County, DeKalb, Sycamore and the NIU community. Based on attendance at recent state championships in Champaign, we expect more than 30,000 fans at Huskie Stadium for this two-day event.

To welcome them, the DCCVB will be hosting a warm, fun hospitality tent for all fans near Huskie Stadium. For those who cannot make the trip, all games will be televised on Comcast SportsNet. There will be several ads promoting our area and industry during the games.

Thanks to all of our sponsors for their fantastic support. To date we have raised more than $200,000 to cover the cost of this event. We want to especially recognize our MVP Sponsors, who each contributed $25,000 to the fund established at the DeKalb County Community Foundation: KishHealth System, Monsanto Corporation, the NIU Foundation, DeKalb County Government and the City of DeKalb.  All event sponsors are identified on our website,

In an effort to reduce operational costs, we also have identified several volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. Although we have had a very good response to date, several opportunities are still available. We are looking for people to help as ushers, ticket-takers and parking attendants. Training for volunteers will occur at the Oct. 26 NIU football game. It takes only a few minutes to sign up at our website,

Our IHSA Destination DeKalb committee has been working hard to make sure this will be a memorable event for the players, parents and fans of all teams that will be participating.  For the players, this will be a day they never forget.

Tickets can be purchased now at We hope all of DeKalb County comes out for one, two or all of the games to support this great event and to enjoy some very good football!
