DeKalb police arrest man carrying loaded firearm

DeKALB – A 21-year-old Chicago man carrying a loaded gun was arrested late Saturday, while a friend ate marijuana to try to avoid criminal charges, DeKalb police said.

About 11:50 p.m., Tracy D. Jamason, 21, of the 6500 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, was standing with a group of people outside of Jimmy John’s at 850 Pappas Drive when another person told DeKalb police officers he was carrying a gun, according to a news release.

Jamason ran but when officers caught him, they found a loaded .357-caliber Springfield Armory gun, authorities said.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer. Jamason was on parole for felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

A 20-year-old Chicago man with Jamason tried to eat marijuana to avoid a drug charge but didn’t consume it all before police noticed, police said. Anthony D. McMillen, 20, of the 5300 block of South Drexel Avenue, Chicago, was charged with obstructing justice.
