WATERMAN – A car accident near Waterman left five people injured, with two of them in serious condition Saturday.
About 3 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call of an accident at Shabbona Grove Road and Route 23 where two cars hit each other and ended up overturned in a field southeast of the intersection.
Lindsay Stager, 20, of the 2400 block of North Sleepy Hollow Road, Earlville, was traveling east on Shabbona Grove Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign at Route 23 and was struck by another vehicle driven by Timothy Carey, 34, of the 3800 block of McGirr Road, Shabbona, authorities said. Carey was traveling south on Route 23.
Carey’s vehicle had been carrying three passengers, Christine Carey, 37, and two other passengers under the age of 10.
Stager and Christine Carey were taken to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Hospital officials said both are in serious condition.
Timothy Carey and two other passengers in his vehicle were taken to Kishwaukee Hospital with unknown injuries, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Hospital officials said they had no status on the condition of each of them.
DeKalb County Sheriff deputies are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. Police and fire departments from Waterman and Hinckley gave assistance at the scene, along with Shabbona Fire Departments also assisted.
