Prep roundup: Indian Creek boys soccer advances
The Indian Creek boys soccer team advanced to the Class 1A Indian Creek Regional semifinals with a 9-2 win against Riverdale on Friday night in Shabbona.
Indian Creek’s Tim Sommerfeld finished the match with six goals, a school record. IC’s Trevor Guerra had four assists for the Timberwolves (5-14-1), who play Mendota at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the regional semifinals.
IC goalkeeper Jeremy Potter had five saves in 65 minutes. Indian Creek scored eight of their goals in the first half. Gavin Eberly also added two goals, and Jake Dodd finished with three assists.
Hiawatha loses: Hiawatha’s season has come to a close. The Hawks lost, 3-0, to Byron in a Class 1A Oregon Regional quarterfinal at Byron.
Kaneland wins: Kaneland won, 41-0, over Yorkville. The Knights (7-0, 3-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East) now have won 35 straight regular-season games.
“The defense played great the whole game, I thought,” Kaneland coach Tom Fedderly said. “We obviously had some miscues and didn’t execute the way we wanted to. We weren’t really happy with how we played overall in the first half. They played a good first half. We went in and just said we gotta sure up things on our side.”
Royals take third at tourney: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated LaMoille, 25-9, 25-22, in the third-place match of the Little Ten Conference Tournament. H-BR’s Anne Klein had five aces and added four kills.
Barbs start out 3-0 at tourney: DeKalb went 3-0 on the first day of the Glenbrook North Tournament. The Barbs beat Prospect and Glenbrook South.
Spartans 1-1 to start tourney: Sycamore went 1-1 to start the Huntley Invitational. The Spartans return to action today at the Huntley Invitational. Sycamore defeated Streamwood, 25-13, 25-17, but lost to Huntley, 17-25, 18-28.
