A ‘Good Neighbor Day’
To the Editor:
To all dedicated VAC employees, drivers, nurses aides and the passengers:
The country luncheon at St. Mary’s was a nice affair. Afterwards, we boarded our VAC bus to get home. Then word came that the bus with Bethany people had broken down, and they were all stranded!
VAC people asked us to double up, stand, etc., in order to fit all in our bus. Marvelous cooperation.
I have never seen such hard-working people – our driver, nurses aides, riders – all. Even a senior citizen offered to stand, plus others. Some who were able, did not.
How they even got all those walkers, patients, wheelchairs and a scooter in and fastened up – I’ll never know, but they did. No complaints – pure patience. Got us all home safely. Fitting start to “Good Neighbor Day.”
Toy Run a success
To the Editor:
We would like to take this opportunity to thank DeKalb County for the success of the DeKalb County Toy Run for Toys for Tots held Sept. 28.
We especially want to acknowledge DeKalb Harley-Davidson for supplying food and a place to begin our run. The escort from DeKalb, Sycamore and Genoa fire and rescue departments; DeKalb, Sycamore and Genoa police departments; and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was greatly appreciated.
We also would like to thank all the riders who participated for their donations of toys and money and the community for allowing us to cause a little traffic upset. Thanks to the Genoa American Legion Riders for organizing the ride, the Genoa Vets Club for their support at the end of our run and the band Shooter for putting on a great show at the after-run party.
We know that the children of DeKalb County will have a much happier Christmas due to the generosity of all.
