50th anniversary

Samuel A. and Eva Dean Wilson of Sycamore are celebrating 50 years of marriage.

After growing up together and falling in love as teenagers, the Wilsons were wed on Oct. 2, 1963, in St. Louis, Mo., while Samuel was serving in the U.S. Army. Eva’s equally heroic service as an at-home educator was also instrumental in the couple’s success.

The Wilsons moved to Sycamore in 1965. They have been and continue to be outstanding members of the community, raising five children of their own and serving as mentors to a host of others.


Maggie Streit and Tom Brown, both of Steward, are engaged to be married on Oct. 12, 2013, at Oak Lane of Oregon in Oregon, Illinois.

Daughter of Bob and Marty Streit of Esmond, the bride-to-be is a 2009 graduate of Rochelle Township High School and a 2012 graduate of Kishwaukee College in Malta. She is a registered nurse at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

Son of Tom and Bonnie Brown of DeKalb, the groom-to-be is a 2005 graduate of DeKalb High School. He ie employed by the Rockford Park District as a mechanic.

The wedding reception will be held at Oak Lane of Oregon.

90th birthday

Martha McMillan will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at Reynolds United Methodist Church, 2496 Reynolds Road, Ashton.

Martha was married to the late Roy McMillan. She has two daughters, Paula Vogeler of DeKalb and the late Regina Tippy.

She also has six grandchildren, Rich (Stacie) Vogeler, of Ashton, Angela (John) Cudmore, of Naperville, Richard (Evonne) Tippy, of Mount Prospect, Ronald (Tammie) Tippy of Clarksville, Tenn., Rhonda (Gary) Brown, of Steward, and Rebecca (Ken Manning) Tippy of Rochelle; and eight great-grandchildren, Tom Vogeler Jr., Emalie Vogeler, Ethan Vogeler, Logan Cudmore, Lisa Tippy, Shannon Brown, Kathy Brown and Alysha Tippy.


Holly Hartmann of Maple Park and Logan Sellers of Earlville were married Saturday June 22, 2013, at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, Sycamore.

Daughter of Doug and Cathy Hartmann of Maple Park, the bride is a 2008 graduate of Kaneland High School in Maple Park and a 2012 graduate of University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is employed as a crop insurance agent.

Son of Don and Gay Sellers of Earlville, the groom is a 2007 graduate of Indian Creek High School in Shabbona. He is employed as a wind turbine technician for Next Era Energy in Shabbona.

Megan Rowland of Geneva served as the Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Katie Scott and Kady Shane, both of Nebraska, Lauren Collins of Paw Paw and Ashley Hartmann of Cortland.

The Best Man was Derek Sellers of Paw Paw. Groomsmen were Chase Sellers if Sandwich, Brad Iversen of Paw Paw, Austin Mitchell of Waterman and Dan Hartmann of Cortland.
John Collins of Paw Paw and Alec Williams of Waterman served as ushers.

The wedding reception was held at Altgeld Hall, DeKalb, followed by a wedding trip to Estes Park, Colorado.

The couple resides in Waterman.
