ESMOND - A 66-year-old Esmond woman died Monday after driving around barricades indicating Esmond Road was closed and striking a bridge abutment.

Susan F. Walker, of the 700 block of Eychaner Road, was found slumped over in her 1999 Buick Century about 5 p.m., according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office. An off-duty firefighter and sheriff's deputies performed CPR, but Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office and the DeKalb County Coroner's Office are investigating the cause of death and what caused the crash, the release states. The crash happened on Esmond Road, south of Mowers Road, which is southwest of Kirkland.

Kirkland and Sycamore firefighters responded.
