A Sycamore firefighter is seen carrying damaged siding from a mobile home after a fire under the hood of a Cadillac Eldorado was extinguished at Evergreen Village in Sycamore on Monday morning.

SYCAMORE – Mechanical failure on a Cadillac sparked a fire that caused $15,000 to $20,000 in damage to the Cadillac, a truck and a mobile home Monday morning.

Sycamore Fire Department and DeKalb County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 9:35 a.m. for a vehicle on fire on the north side Evergreen Village Mobile Home Park, 955 E. State St. in Sycamore. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had spread to the covered parking area attached to the mobile home.

Sycamore Assistant Fire Chief Art Zern said most of the damage was limited to the home's exterior.

"The siding was burned, and we had to do a little overhaul," Zern said. "We opened it up, making sure the fire didn't extend into the walls. The trailer was fully charged with smoke."

A 1966 Chevrolet pickup truck parked next to the Cadillac in the covered parking area also was damaged in the fire.
