DeKalb senior Kelsey Schrader won the Charger Classic Invitational Gold Division race on Saturday with a 3-mile time of 17:18.
Monica York took 20th while Sara Schafer was 41st for the Barbs, who finished seventh overallas a team.
"We had a nice plan where Kelsey was going to be more aggressive in the first mile," coach Mike Wolf said. "Her finish ended up being her strong point as she took the lead with 200 meters to go."
Lalowski wins at Rock River Run: Maggie Lalowski took first place at the Rock River Run, finishing the 3-mile course in 18:23.
Sycamore finished eighth as a team and was led by Lalowski, Stephanie Cole (29th), Hannah Cerny (31st), Kylie Ocker (55th) and Amy Schroder (56th).
Kaneland took third place overall at the Rock River Run. Brianna Bower finished eighth, Victoria Clinton was 13th and Erika Carlson took 32nd to lead the Knights. Jessica Kucera (38th) and Abby Shaw (43rd) rounded out the scoring for Kaneland.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Sycamore takes fifth: Sycamore took fifth place at the Rock River Run and was led by Adam Millburg, who finished in fifht place in 16:04. Mark Stice was eighth while Kendryck Rand (25th), Jordan Peterson (35th) and Jason Ruetten (42nd) also scored for the Spartans.
DeKalb places 14th: DeKalb junior Paul Fiedler placed 46th to lead the Barbs to a 14th-place finish at the Charger Classic Invitational. Nate Wellendorf finished 75th while Brandon Anderson was 86th.
"Paul stepped into our No. 1 spot and ran a very strong race," Wolf said. "I was pleased that we had leadership to step in today."
Kaneland took 11th at the Charger Classic and was paced by a 40th place finish from Nathaniel Kucera. Ryan Bower finished in 44th while Luis Acosta was 57th for the Knights.
Cook shoots 78: Jacob Cook shot 78 to lead the Barbs to a fourth-place finish at the Sterling Invitational. DeKalb shot 332 as a group and also got scores from Connor Hoyle (82), Austin Freeman (83) and Robby Bishop (89).
H-BR downs Byron: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Byron, 3-0, with Jason Bohannon posting a shutout in net.
The Royals got goals from connor Nelson in the first half while Jack Warner and Eric Phillips tallied goals in the second half for the Royals (11-3-1, 4-2 Little Ten), who play Monday at Earlville-Leland.
G-K runs past Plano: Genoa-Kingston defeated Plano, 4-2, in a home non-conference match. The Cogs went up, 4-0, with two goals each from Cris Beltran and Juan Da Silva. Juan Lechuga added two assists while Uriel Ortega and Erik Tomlinson also recorded assists.
"We started out a little flat in the first half, but in the beginning of the second half we started working well together as a team," G-K coach Randy Tate said. "Our passing game was much better and we were able to work the ball in the attacking third of the field."
G-K is 8-5, 4-2 in the Big Northern Conference East.
FRIDAY'S LATE RESULTS
Yorkville edges DeKalb: Yorkville defeated DeKalb, 162-163, in a conference dual match on Friday at Blackberry Oaks. Austin Freeman shot 38 while Ben Melms recorded a 40 and Connor Hoyle shot 42 for the Barbs (4-2, 4-1).
Indian Creek wins: Indian Creek defeated Rockford Christian Life, 25-21, 25-21, in its homecoming match.
Sam Schultz and Josie Diehl each had four kills while Bailey Martenson had 12 digs. Hannah Mathews recorded an ace and five assists and Rebecca Boehne had two aces and five assists for the Timberwolves (5-7, 3-1 Little Ten).
