ROUNDUP: DeKalb soccer rolls past Rochelle, 6-0.
The DeKalb boys soccer team remained undefeated in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East with a 6-0 win over Rochelle on Thursday.
Akim Suraji and Trevor Freeland each scored two goals and Eric Ngum and Deven Hill each had one. Sean Woodford had three assists, Dylan Hottsmith recorded two and Misha Ryzhov had one for DeKalb (8-1, 3-0 NI Big 12 East).
“The first half we had some individual moments where we were able to capitalize on some of our individual talent,” DeKalb coach Brent McIntosh said. “In the second half, we played much better as a team.”
G-K runs past Marengo: Genoa-Kingston defeated Marengo, 5-1, in a Big Northern Conference match at home. Juan Lechuga had a hat trick andWilliam Crozier and Juan DaSilva also scored for the Cogs. Tommy Hansen, Erik Tomlinson and Uriel Ortega had assists for G-K (7-5, 4-2 BNC East).
“I thought we really bounced back well from Tuesday’s loss,” G-K coach Randy Tate said.
Indian Creek tops Hiawatha: Indian Creek scored four second-half goals to defeat Hiawatha, 5-2. Trevor Guerra had two goals and Gavin Eberly had two goals and an assist. Jake Dodd had the final goal for the Timberwolves (2-10).
Kaneland ties: Kaneland played Yorkville to a scoreless tie in a NI Big 12 East match. The Knights are 4-4-3 on the year and 1-1-1 in conference.
Knights top Rochelle: Kaneland defeated Rochelle, 25-20, 25-18.
The Knights were led by Jenny Lubic’s 22 assists. Ellie Dunn had 12 kills and 15 digs and Vanessa Gould had six kills and two blocks. Riley Hannula chipped in with five kills.
Indian Creek wins second straight: Indian Creek defeated Leland-Earlville, 25-14, 26-24, to win back-to-back Little Ten Conference games.
Emma Goodrich led the Timberwolves with 10 kills and Josie Diehl had six kills. Rebecca Boehne recorded three aces and seven assists and Hannah Mathews had three aces and 12 assists. Kayla Kauffman chipped in with eight digs and three kills for Indian Creek (4-7, 3-1 LTC).
“I think we’re starting to play with a little more confidence,” Indian Creek coach Stephanie Crutcher said.
Royals down Hiawatha: Hinckley-Big Rock defeated Hiawatha, 25-19, 25-17, in a LTC match.
Karrigan Cowan led the Royals with nine aces while Lauren Paver had nine kills and Jacqueline Madden recorded five kills. Caitlyn Flanigan led H-BR, which is 2-2 in conference, with seven digs.
DeKalb-Sycamore dominates: DeKalb-Sycamore defeated Sterling, 111-57, in a dual.
Jensen Keck (200-yard freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Bailey Flemming (50 free, 500 free) and Colette LeBlanc (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) each won two events while Alexa Miller was first in the 100 free.
The co-op swept all three relays, as well. Kylie Olson, Flemming, Miller and Kayleigh Kozlowski combined to win the 200 medley while Olson, Flemming, Miller and Keck won the 200 free. Olson, Miller, Cook and Keck were victorious in the 400 free relay for DeKalb-Sycamore (6-0).
“It was just a solid meet. The girls looked pretty tired today, but they got in and raced and got the job done,” co-op coach Leah Eames said.
Sycamore falls: Sycamore lost a non-conference dual match to St. Charles East, 4-1.
Angelina Ye was the Spartans’ lone winner at No. 1 singles, winning, 6-1, 6-3. Kathryn Sullivan lost at No. 2 singles in a super tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets.
“I’m really proud of the way the girls played, this was a really good team,” Sycamore coach Dave Hillmer said. “I’m happy with their play.”
Sycamore is 7-4 on the season.
Kaneland downs LaSalle-Peru: Kaneland defeated LaSalle-Peru, 4-1.
Sammie Schrepferman didn’t lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while Madi Jurcenko and Jelly Emmanouil did the same at No. 1 doubles. Colleen Landers and Stephanie Karolewicz combined for a win at No. 2 doubles and Stephanie Zwick and Kaylee Shoaff were victorious at No. 3 doubles.
H-BR edged by Somonauk: Hinckley-Big Rock fell to Somonauk, 195-199, in a dual match at Indian Oaks.
Tyler Runge was the meet’s co-medalist with Somonauk’s Alec Chism at 46 while H-BR’s Hunter Seierstad shot 48 and Luke Bish recorded a 51.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Clark takes first: Kristen Clark took first place at the Westminster Christian meet in Elgin. Katie Hoffman finished in fourth.
