Published: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is partnering with Northern Illinois University to offer Saturday Engineering Workshops (SEW) and summer camp for girls in grades 6, 7 and 8, at its Naperville campus beginning Nov. 2. The series culminates with a week-long summer camp, June 16 through 20, 2014.

SEW workshops challenge girls to sharpen their math, science and technology skills as they discover engineering. Participants will work in small groups assisted by female faculty and engineering undergraduates from NIU, along with high school mentors on various engineering projects.

Interested applicants will need to fill out a program application and produce a letter of recommendation along with a copy of their last quarter report card by Oct. 7. Applicants will then be notified by NIU staff the week of Oct. 21.
