CROP Hunger Walk set for Oct. 20

Published: Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 5:30 a.m. CST

Fundraising for the annual DeKalb County CROP Hunger Walk kicked off on Sept. 17. The fundraising will culminate with a walk at 2 p.m. Oct. 20.

The walk location alternates between churches in DeKalb and Sycamore; this year’s host is St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with assistance from Federated Church in Sycamore. Walkers should gather at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s, 208 Somonauk St. in Sycamore.

The Rally Night to start the fundraising was attended by 15 church groups and organizations, who will be joined by other groups to reach a goal of raising $32,000. CROP Hunger Walks were the first events to use the walk concept as a fundraising effort, and are considered the “granddaddy of charity walks.” Symbolically, the walk recognizes the distance people throughout the world must walk to gather water and food.

For more information or to join the DeKalb County CROP Hunger Walk, contact Jean Evans or Jerry Lane at walkcoordinators@yahoo.com. Donors also can give online at www.crophungerwalk.org/dekalbil.
