Oct. 5 is Popcorn Surge Day in DeKalb County

Published: Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

Every September and October, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venture Crews throughout northern Illinois sell popcorn to raise funds to help support their programs. With these funds Packs, Troops and Crews can help their members have the opportunity to camp and buy supplies.

This year, residents can expect to see lots of Scouts throughout DeKalb County on Oct. 5 as they go door-to-door for DeKalb’s first Popcorn Surge Day. From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. participating scouts will be taking orders for various popcorn products – from annual favorites such as cheddar cheese flavored popcorn and microwavable corn to some new products, such as bacon ranch popcorn and jalapeno flavored popcorn. At 3 p.m. there will be a celebration at Sycamore United Methodist Church.

Questions about this event can be directed to either Anna Kurtzman, Kishwaukee District Popcorn Kernel, at 630-816-5420 or Zach Knoch, Kishwaukee District Executive, at 630-297-5948.
