MALTA – A Steward man was hospitalized in serious condition after his motorcycle collided with the back of a car early Monday outside Malta.
Richard Kane, 49, was driving his 2005 Suzuki motorcycle east on Perry Road when a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am turned left in front of him at the intersection with University Road about 6:47 a.m., according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies found Kane laying on Perry Road in the westbound lane; his damaged motorcycle was in a ditch.
The Grand Am, driven by Ericka Beard, 29, of DeKalb, had come to a stop on University Road south of the intersection.
Kane was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Beard was treated at and released from Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.
Beard was charged with failure to yield turning left.
