Jim Nesci will return to Shabbona United Church of Christ with his collection or rescued reptiles for the annual Rally Sunday Carnival on Sunday.
Nesci’s animals include Bubba and Lucky, the alligators; Big Al and Tank the tortoise; Blondie, the 17-foot albino Burmese python; and Dragon and Godzilla, the lizards.
This year’s theme is “All God’s Creatures Are Beautiful!” taken from the Bible verse found in 1 Samuel 16:7. It says “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
For many people, reptiles may not be the most attractive creatures, but like people, God looks at the heart and His purposes.
Nesci is the founder and director of Cold Blooded Creatures. All of the reptiles in the presentation have been rescued. Nesci was good friends with Steve Irwin of “Crocodile Hunter” fame.
Nesci and his reptile friends have made appearances on the “Today” show, “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,“ “Live with Regis and Kelly,” among others. Nesci makes appearances all over the country attempting to eliminate the myths that surround reptiles. He is an entertaining presenter and a man of personal faith.
Nesci’s presentation at Shabbbona UCC a few years ago was the most talked about Rally Sunday ever and this year promises the same, according to Pastor Jim Allen.
“I think everyone was amazed they could hold a 17-foot-long python in their hands or ride an alligator up and down the aisle of the church,” he said in an news release.
The presentation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the church santuary at 104 E. Navaho St., Shabbona. Everyone is invited.
The feeding time, for the humans – not the alligators, will follow the service. Also following the service will be a carnival with games and food for all ages.
