LIBERTYVILLE – A suburban Chicago woman and her baby are home after she gave birth in a truck outside a hospital.

The local newspaper reported that Alma Martinez of Park City delivered her baby girl in the front seat Thursday morning. Julie Ann Manning weighed 7-pounds, 9-ounces when she was born outside Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Her father had run into the emergency room to get doctors.

A paramedic team in a nearby ambulance came to the truck. They brought the mother and baby into the hospital. Emergency room Dr. Kendra Hall said the “baby was looking good” and “was pink and crying.”

Martinez is a 29-year-old day care center worker. She and her daughter are well and went home from the hospital Friday.
