The Northern Illinois University Art Museum’s fall 2013 Get on the Bus trips begin this month.

Participants can meet other art lovers, keep up on the art world, see innovative exhibits and travel without the hassle of traffic, tolls and parking. The museum schedules the trip, plans the itinerary and makes arrangements; riders need only register and pay by the deadlines. Trips leave from the parking lot of the NIU School of Art, on the northeast corner of Gilbert and College avenues, unless otherwise specified.

• On Sept. 22, there will be a trip to see “Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity Undressed: The Fashion of Privacy” at the Art Institute of Chicago. The bus leaves at 10:30 a.m. and returns at 6:45 p.m. Cost is $12 for members, $15 for nonmember students and seniors, and $18 for other nonmembers. The payment covers the cost of transportation; visitors must buy their own admission to the museum and meals. General admission to the Art Institute is $23 for adults and $17 for students and seniors. Registration and payment is due by Sept. 19.

• There will be a members-only after-hours gallery viewing at Packer Schopf and comedy burlesque show at the Everleigh Social Club on Oct. 4. Participants in this trip will have a private after-hours viewing in the gallery, then dinner out before attending “Michelle L’Amour’s Wiggle Room” at 10 p.m. Cost is $45 and includes transportation, the gallery viewing and tickets to “Wiggle Room.” Participants pay for their own dinner and drinks. This trip is for adults 21 and older, and a dress code will be enforced. Call the museum at 815-753-1936 for details. The bus will depart DeKalb at 2 p.m. and return at 2 a.m. Registration and payment are due by Oct. 1.

• There will be another members-only event Oct. 25, when the museum will visit Crab Tree Farm to view a private decorative arts and crafts collection and explore the site of Ragdale Artist Residency. This trip is limited to a small group, and cost is $50. Lunch is not provided. The bus departs at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 6:45 p.m. Registration and payment are due by Oct. 9.

• On Nov. 3, there will be a trip to the Chicago History Museum to see “50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair: Inspiring Beauty and Vivian Maier’s Chicago.” The bus departs at 10:30 a.m. and returns at 6:45 p.m. Transportation and museum admission is $25 for members, $30 for nonmember students and seniors and $35 for other nonmembers.
